Discovering the True Meaning of Christmas
Merry Christmas, Parents!
This month we are teaching that Jesus is God’s Son! We know that this holiday season can get really busy, and it can be tough to find opportunities to celebrate with your kids the true meaning of Christmas. So, we wanted to make it easy for you! You should receive a wonderful keepsake gift from your child’s teachers along with a Christmas Story booklet. You can use one page of the booklet each week leading up to Christmas. Each page has a picture, Bible reading and activity for you to do with your child.
We pray these gifts and resources are helpful as you take the time to talk to your kids about the birth of Jesus, God’s only Son.

July 2010
This month in Discovery Land, we will “Learn to do what is right,” (Isaiah 1:17). God wants us to do the right thing. How do we know what the right thing is? We look to His Word, the Bible, to guide us.
While visiting with the stories of Joseph and Daniel, preschoolers will hear how we can choose to do the right thing even when it’s hard. We can also forgive others when they choose to do the wrong thing. Each right choice leads us closer to the path God created for us.
Our team will be praying for you to have moments filled with wonder as you give your preschooler a first look at the God who made them and loves them.
Use these resources below in your family time this month.
S.S.S. 2010 Announcement
By now you have heard a little or a lot about the very good possibility of Somerset Gables, an Academica charter school, opening within our facility for the 2010- 2011 school year. We are extremely excited for this opportunity within our community, and we look forward to building friendships with families who might never come to UBC on a Sunday, but who will be very familiar with our campus during the school week. What a gift!
In preparation for the campus’s double use, there are considerable renovations that must be made over the summer. In addition to these, a UBC Worship Center upgrade is also scheduled for the summer months. For these two significant reasons, we have made the difficult decision to cancel SSS (Super Summer Spectacular) for 2010. We simply do not know what condition the facility will be in and cannot in wisdom and good conscience plan a safe, fun and spectacular week for your child with these unknown variables. We anticipated knowing before now what the outcome would be with regard to UBC’s vote and the city of Coral Gables position on the charter school, but we do not. Therefore, we must make this timely decision regardless of the outcome with the city because we are now weeks behind on our timeline to plan, recruit, and train our volunteers.
We recognize the importance and value of an event like SSS and look forward to 2011, as we expect to be back online with summer plans for your child and their unchurched friends. For this summer, the Sunday Discovery Land (preschool) and HWY 252 (elementary) programs will be running as scheduled until further notice. We will also be moving forward with Kids Kamp for completed 4th and 5th grade, July 14-17 (click here to register), and in light of not hosting SSS as usual, we are seeking to provide alternate off-site summer programming for K-3rd grade, tentatively scheduled for July 12 and 13. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide an off-site experience for preschoolers.
Thank you for standing with us as we explore what God is doing in our community through a new opportunity at UBC. We are honored to be at this intersection with Him and with you. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the Family Ministry Team with questions.
