Register Today for Parent Dedication!

pp_parent_ded_black

UBC recognizes the vast responsibility of parenthood and is committed to preparing parents of babies to understand their new God-given roles. We have written a Parent’s Covenant and offer our parents the opportunity to accept these responsibilities before God and their church family in a ceremony we call Parent Dedication.

To assist parents in understanding these responsibilities and how UBC joins you in them, we offer four Parenting Intensive classes which must be completed before participating in the Parent Dedication ceremony. The Intensives begin Sunday, October 3rd and continue weekly through October 24th. We meet in room 202 from 10:15 am to noon. Click here to register & make sure to mark your calendars for Parent Dedication, Sunday, December 5th, 2010.

Contact Alison at 305-448-4425 ext. 244 or alison.bisesi@ubcmiami.org if you have any problems or questions about registering!

UBC Wants to be Our Parents’ BFF

think_orange_logoIf you’ve been around UBC for any length of time, surely you’ve seen or heard someone in Family Ministry say, “Let’s Think Orange.” But, do you know why we say it?

Orange is a secondary color, created when you combine two primary colors-red and yellow, right?  For us, we’ve chosen these two primary colors to represent the two primary entities that God has positioned to have influence in the world.

When asked, “What color comes to mind when you think of the word love?” ten out of ten people I asked said, “Red.” We represent the first entity, the family, with the color red because the first priority of the family should be to establish loving relationships with one another that reflect the love relationship that God has established with us. God’s design was first to place us in a family where we would be loved and learn to love.

The Church, the other entity, is represented with the color yellow. One of the first things that comes to mind when we think about what the color yellow signifies is light. God ordained and called His church to represent Jesus, the Light of the World. C.S. Lewis said, “The church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs.”  The Church exists to shine a light into the darkness, a light that reveals Jesus, God’s Son.

“Thinking Orange” is UBC’s desire to imagine what could happen if we combined forces with parents to make a bigger difference in families. Two combined influences make a greater impact than just two influences doing the best they can independently.

Just imagine:

  • parents and UBC are synchronized in teaching age appropriate biblical truths because families are provided corresponding resources, making the most of teachable moments.
  • moms and dads are equipped to lead their own children to faith, in their own homes, at the appropriate time.
  • parents are more confident as UBC prepares them in advance for the parenting skills necessary in navigating each stage of parenting.
  • the peace parents would have knowing they journeyed together with other parents, providing mutual support through the challenges of raising children with faith and character.
  • the strength your child will experience knowing he/she is part of a tight knit community of friends whose  parents hold similar hopes and dreams.

We’re thrilled for a new ministry year to synchronize Family Ministry volunteers and parents around a master plan to build faith and character in their sons and daughters. Parents, please join us for Parent FamJamz this Sunday, August 30, at either 10:15 or 11:40 in the FamJamz theater, for a preview of all we hope to accomplish together.
