rekindle . connecting with God

july 4 – august 15

There are lots of ways to connect these days – Facebook, Twitter, IM, texting, Skype, etc. But how do we connect with God? Although He has 375,691 friends on Facebook the last time we checked – we’re pretty sure that’s not the best way to get in touch with Him.
The Bible finds its purpose as it leads us into an ever deepening connection with God. It’s one way He speaks to us & we’re going to take a look at what He has to say. Whether it’s through our leather-bound Bible, smartphone, or iPad – it’s time to rekindle our connection with Him.
We’ve chosen a few of the greatest chapters in the Bible to start the conversation between you & God – starting with James 1 on Sunday, July 4 & then weekly » Luke 15, Isaiah 53, Romans 8, John 15, Genesis 1, Revelation 22, & 1 Corinthians 13.

Making a Difference for the Kingdom of God

At UBC our tithes support our ongoing ministries through the operating budget. Beyond that, our offerings provide for our future building project, our missions efforts, and designated projects. Through our giving in these ways lives are changed, ministries are provided and the gospel is shared. What a privilege to be a part!

    Offering the Sacrifices of Love

Offerings are contributions made above and beyond our tithes and are stewarded through the missions and/or special needs budgets of the church (overseen by Missions Committee). Winter Missions Offerings & Summer Missions Offerings are gathered twice a year for global and local missions, respectively. Additionally, 5.4% of every dollar given as a tithe to our ministry budget goes to missions and the first 5% of every dollar given to our building/relocation fund goes to missions. (Acts 2:45, 4:34, 1 Cor 16:1-4, Phil 4:18-19) Beyond the tithe God’s Word shows people (including Jesus) making profound gifts of costly sacrifice.  (Mark 10:45, John 12:3, Luke 21:3-4, 22:42-44, Acts 4:34-35, 1 Chronicles 29:2-5, 2 Corinthians 8-9).

Growing in the Grace of Giving

    When I give…
» I am behaving more like God (John 3:16, James 1:5)
» I am following Jesus’ example (Matthew 10:8, Mark 10:45)
    » I am showing faithful stewardship (1 Corinthians 4:2)
» I am drawing closer to God from the heart (Matthew 6:21)
» I am breaking the power of materialism in my life (1 Timothy 6:17-19)
»  I am investing securely in eternity (Matthew 6:20, Luke 16:9-11)
    »  I will receive God’s blessing in return (Proverbs 3:9-10, Luke 6:38)

“Well done, good and faithful servant! You’ve been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Master’s happiness.” Matthew 25:21

    Joining Jesus in Tithing

A tithe is simply a tenth, ie. a dime of every dollar, ten of every hundred, and so on. We steward these through the operating budget (overseen by Finance and Personnel Committees). Tithing allows each of us to contribute to what all of us are doing together as a church in ministry. (Mt 23:23, Mal 3:10)

Although Jesus never gave his disciples a “Thou shalt tithe” command, we know Jesus taught more about money than He did about Heaven or Hell. One of every six verses of the recorded teachings of Jesus is about money. One of every three of Jesus’ parables speaks about the right use or wrong use of money.

The acts of worship are seen as we give…in praise to God as Creator.
We make offerings from what He has made possible…in thanksgiving for God as Provider.
We share in gratitude for His provisions…in intercession to God as Redeemer.
We give so others can live eternally…in petition to God as Caregiver.
We help needs get met through UBC ministries…in faith to God as Faithful & True.
We see the invisible become real in our lives…in obedience to God as Master.
We become more like Him through generosity…in sacrifice to God as Worthy.
