Current Series

DISPOSABLE   .   may 12  -  june 10

The Environmental Protection Agency claims the average American produces about 4.4 pounds of garbage a day, 29 pounds per week & 1,600 pounds a year. No, we’re not trying to make you feel guilty. In fact, Americans are not the #1 garbage producer in the world…

But consumer culture makes it all too easy to take the priceless & treat it as if it were meant merely to be used up then thrown on the trash heap. In our new series we let God’s Word teach us how to treasure what truly matters & show that family, marriage, our bodies, time & income are so much more than Disposable.

The Worship Arts Ministry at UBC aims to communicate the truths of Jesus Christ in a dynamic, creative and multi-sensory way, cultivating sacred spaces that invite people to participate, experience God and be transformed.

Values:

• WORSHIP

1. We value God as the focus of our experience. (1 Chron. 16:29, Rom. 11:36)

2. We value participation in spirit and truth, expressed corporately and without distraction. (1 Chron 16:8-11, John 4:23-24)

3. We value communication that is relevant to our culture. (1 Cor. 9:19-23, 1 Cor. 14:6-12)

• ARTISTRY

4. We value creativity in representing truth. (Ex. 35:35, 1 Cor. 10:31)

5. We value excellence of presentation. (Ex. 23:19, Col. 3:23)

6. We value intention of worship service design. (Gen 1:1-31, Matt. 13:11-15)

• MINISTRY

7. We value development of the artist as worshipper. (John 15:5-8, Eph 5:1-10)

8. We value unity of the team on behalf of the church. (Psalm 133, Eph. 4:1-6)

9. We value empowerment of the laity to minister.

(1 Cor. 12:7-11, Eph. 4:11-13)

The use of the arts in corporate worship gives creativity a chance to do what words cannot. For believer and unbeliever alike, the arts in worship have a special place, as a reflection of Creator God, to communicate in ways that engage our senses and prompt us to respond. God uses art every day to call our name, and He is redeeming art that has been distracted and wandered off.

“Worship is the submission of all our nature to God. It is the quickening of conscience by His holiness; the nourishment of mind with His truth; the purifying of imagination by His Beauty; the opening of the heart to His love; the surrender of will to His purpose – and all of this gathered up in adoration, the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin and the source of all actual sin.” (William Temple)
